Our History

Martha's Pantry, affectionately known as Martha's, opened in 2007 by sisters Anita and Ondine McLeod.

Several years later Martha's famous High Tea is considered a Wellington institution.  Martha's Pantryis often cited as one of the top spots in Wellington hospitality due to our attention to detail, style and service - a must to cross off your Capital bucket list. The McLeod girls now have plenty of help from a team of charming hospitality professionals and skilled craft bakers.  Martha's Pantry vintage tea room resides in a beautifully restored heritage building at the top of Cuba Street.  This building was bought by Martha and John Moran in 1920, where they ran a drapery business and lived upstairs.  Martha was famously hospitable and a superb cook. The building was marked for demolition in the 1960s  to make way for the motorway bypass which now cuts across Cuba Street.  Martha and John's grand-daughter Sandra Moran, a young lawyer at that time, opposed the roading authority, a mission which took some 25 years to resolve.
